Poland’s President-elect Karol Nawrocki has stirred EU debate by opposing Ukraine’s entry into the European Union. In a recent interview with Hungary’s Mandiner, Nawrocki stressed the importance of protecting Poland’s national interests—citing unresolved historical tensions, economic concerns, and fears of unfair competition in agriculture and logistics.
While reaffirming support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, Nawrocki emphasized that Kyiv must respect the priorities of EU nations like Poland and Hungary.
His stance coincides with the EU’s reinstatement of tariffs on Ukrainian agricultural exports, reflecting growing regional resistance to Ukraine’s fast-tracked EU accession.
