    I had an old Acer that could run XP, 7, and 8. Acer V5-131. It had a celeron cpu but if you upgraded to 8Gb of ram it ran very snappy.

    So I've decided X230, it seems to be the smallest and lightest I can get, and the most mod friendly.

    The x230 is a good choice and you should have no problems installing XP because Lenovo has drivers:

    pcsupport.lenovo.com

    I own an X120e. It also has XP drivers although I've never tried it and currently have Windows 7 on it.

    I've also gotten a E7250 and 2570p with time.

    The E7250 always gives an ACPI BSOD even with the modded ACPI drivers.

    The 2570p has a funny BIOS. For example I can get USB 3 with modded drivers to work just fine on X230, but I always get a code 12 on the 2570p and I have no idea how to fix. I also can't disable basic stuff like USB 3, TPM, other "security" devices that the X230 gives me options to disable, etc.
