Here’s a method you can use to disable internet access while keeping your LAN connection active:
1.Modify the Network Adapter Settings:
Go to Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center/Change adapter settings.
Right-click on your active network adapter (usually labeled as “Local Area Connection” or “Ethernet”) and select Properties.
In the list of items, find Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and select it, then click on Properties
In the IPv4 Properties window, select Use the following DNS server addresses. For the DNS server addresses, you can set both to 0.0.0.0 or any invalid IP (e.g., 127.0.0.1 for both). This will effectively block internet access while still allowing LAN connectivity.
Click OK and close all the windows.
2.Using a Firewall Rule:
You can also block internet access using Windows Firewall.
Open the Start Menu, search for Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, and open it.
In the left pane, select Outbound Rules, then in the right pane, click on New Rule.
Choose Custom and click Next until you reach the Which local IP addresses does this rule apply to? section.
Under This rule applies to all IP addresses, leave the default settings, and click Next until you reach the Which remote IP addresses does this rule apply to? section.
Here, select These IP addresses under Remote IP addresses, click Add, and then enter 0.0.0.0/0 to block all external IP addresses.
Continue through the wizard and give your rule a name like “Block Internet Access”. This will stop all internet traffic while still allowing LAN traffic.
3.Alternative Approach - Manual IP Settings:
If you’re familiar with setting static IPs, you can manually set a static IP that’s outside of your router’s DHCP range, but leave the default gateway blank. This way, the laptop can still communicate with other devices on your network but won’t have a route to the internet.
OK, I tried using this one and it's not letting me finish the rule. It says "Invalid mask specified on a v4 subnet.". I verified I had set it to 0.0.0.0 so no idea of why it says invalid.
